Lani's story
As a single mother with a young daughter, I’ve been significantly impacted by the higher cost of living, rising utility bills and the cost of food. To try to make ends meet, I started skipping one of my meals a day, this then became two meals and then I started rationing my child’s nappies as I could no longer afford them.
I then reached out to a local community organisation who provided me with nappy donations through The Nappy Collective. I cried with relief when I received them, it made such a difference after I’d been struggling for so long. These nappies meant I was able to afford a decent amount of food and made it easier to be more present for my little girl and parent her in the best way I know how.
Since then, my daughter has been toilet trained and I’ve gone on to donate her leftover nappies. These nappies were a life raft for me when I felt like I was drowning so I hope my donation will bring the same feeling of relief to another mum who really needs it. Nappies are such a simple gift, but mean so much to mums who are struggling like I was.
I am so grateful to The Nappy Collective and everyone who donates to them.
